"Labour is the only political party that puts people before profit." Alastair Tinto - Vice Chair - @FIVE0Socalist
I joined the Labour Party in the 1970s because it was the only political party that put people before profit and that would defend and enhance the services that we need to make a just society. I worked in various aspects of social care, especially care of the elderly, for most of my working life, in Newcastle, Sunderland and Plymouth. For the last 25 years of my working life I ran a care home and domiciliary care service in the Tamar Valley. In 2017 I stood in the Cornwall Council elections in the St Dominick, Harrowbarrow and Kelly Bray division. Needless to say, I came fourth but was proud to be the first Labour candidate in that ward in living memory. Since 2017 I have been a Parish Councillor for Calstock Ward on Calstock Parish Council where I am chair of the Calstock Neighbourhood Development Plan Committee. I have been secretary of the Tamar Valley Branch of the Labour Party since 2015 and vice-chair of South-East Cornwall Constituency Labour Party since 2017. As vice-chair, my main role is to support the chair.
