Saltash Essa Alastair Tinto
Alastair Tinto

I have lived in the constituency for over 40 years. I held senior positions in Social Services in Plymouth. I know how local government works. In 1990 I set up Fernleigh House Residential Home and Domiciliary Care Service, a successful business caring for elderly people in the Tamar Valley. I retired in 2015.

Since 2017 I have been a Parish Councillor in Calstock. I am chair of the Neighbourhood Development Plan. I set up and chair the
Parish Council’s Forest for Calstock Parish which has crowdfunded money to plant trees in Calstock to mitigate climate change and enhance bio-diversity.

The last 10 years of savage cuts in public services have been particularly hard on local councils. Cornwall’s budget has been slashed forcing the Council to slash services. Wherever you look – be it social care for our elderly, the library service, youth services for young people, adult education, council housing – the fabric of our services has been impoverished. Much of it has been privatised, to little
obvious benefit. This is wrong. I will fight to expand services and to ensure they are run by Cornwall Council and not by private businesses.

COUNCIL HOUSING I will campaign for more council houses at socially affordable rents.

HEALTH & ADULT CARE I will promote the integration of the NHS and adult care services.

ENVIRONMENT I will support Cornwall Council’s Climate Emergency policies and gRene investment.

SALTASH I will promote and improve Saltash for the benefit of residents, visitors and the local economy.

WORKING TOGETHER I will work with all people and all parties to get things done for the benefit of Saltash.
