Saltash Tamar Matt Griffiths
Matt Griffiths
This is a first for me and I’m honored to have been selected by South East Cornwall CLP as the Labour Party candidate for the Saltash Tamar division in the Cornwall Council elections on 6 May.
I’m standing in the Saltash Tamar division as this is where I’ve lived for 24 years. I am the CEO of the national charity Youth Music.
Many people in Saltash face challenges in their lives as a result of the cruel and unjust actions of this government. The impact of COVID-19 has further exposed these inequalities and exacerbated the challenges even further. They include financial hardship, food poverty, poor housing, job insecurity, and educational disadvantage. All impacting on mental health and wellbeing. Young people, the next generation, are particularly affected. Their futures are increasingly uncertain due to COVID-19, the implications of Brexit, and a lack of concerted attention from both local and national governments. Supporting young people will therefore be one of my priorities if I’m elected.
Responding to COVID-19, the Climate Emergency and other transformational world events require strategic thinking with decisive action for how we live our lives now and in the future. If elected, I will take the lead in putting together a COVID-19 Recovery Action Plan for Saltash focused on jobs, training, wellbeing, practical solutions to address climate change, and revitalising Fore Street.
I’m loyal and ambitious for Saltash. COVID-19 has knocked us all for six and I’m determined to play my part as we enter a period of recovery and rebuilding so we can thrive in the future.
Join me in working together to make this happen.
